Learning about the ins and outs of prep in Term 3 means that students have more time to think and plan (as well as discuss options with careers advisors) so that they can take advantage of the summer break—which is the most important time for students to finish studying the bulk of UCAT (if not all of it) to majorly reduce their pressure levels in Year 12. We find that Year 10 and 11 students tend to also be more aware of the seriousness of the UCAT exam in Term 3, as a lot of the Year 12s are in the process of sitting, or have just sat, the UCAT at that time. Overall, school workshops are generally very well-received by students in Term 3!
For these reasons, we highly recommend that school workshops be held before the summer break (rather than in Term 1 or 2) to allow students the opportunity to complete as much preparation as possible during the summer break. Almost all of the top-achieving students follow this timeline, as these are also the same students who need extra time to be involved in extracurricular activities in Year 12 and achieve a 99.5+ ATAR— leaving UCAT prep until Term 1 of Year 12 can majorly jeopardise their plans as well as their UCAT studies.
