Our Recipe for UCAT Success
A FOCUSED Preparation journey: Success from the get-go
When designing our courses, the first question we ask ourselves is this: “What are the most important things for a student to gain entry into medicine?” After thousands of conversations with students, parents and schools and 11 years of assisting 600+ students into medical courses across Australia and New Zealand, we created THREE CORE GOALS for every single one of our courses to achieve.

What it takes to score top marks
For a student to be truly test-ready, they must undertake a preparation process that builds all essentials skills so that they have the confidence to transfer everything they’ve learnt in the classroom to the exam. Since the UCAT is not a knowledge-based test requiring the recall of information, extra effort is needed for students to master all the skills required to solve any question the test could throw at them. Furthermore, completing the test strategically helps students to maintain their composure and score the largest amount of marks in the shortest amount of time.
1. LEARNING the Correct Approach to Solving
All 14 Question Types found in the UCAT
To become great at any skill, one has to first know what the best version of that skill looks like and why it looks like that. Knowing these two characteristics of any skill allows the learner to grasp its mechanisms much quicker and identify personal weaknesses much sooner. In short, practice is futile until you know what you are meant to be practicing - and since the UCAT is a skill-based test that focuses on logical reasoning, teaching the correct skills behind solving every UCAT question type (and the rationale behind that approach) is what iCanMed does best.
COURSE FEATURE: All iCanMed courses contain an online course that gives students access to 2000+ questions updated from the 2019 exam. The course contains over 100 lessons that teach students the theory behind every UCAT question type, followed by practice questions (quiz and exam format) and a 6-10 minute video tutorial showing students the best way to solve each of the 2000+ questions from beginning to end.
2. BUILDING Accuracy AND experience BY PRACTISING WITH THE MOST RECENT QUESTIONS AND RECEIVING immediate FEEDBACK
Knowing how to solve questions is just the beginning. iCanMed sets the bar high by making sure each student receives the best feedback so that questions are answered correctly every time. To achieve this, the iCanMed team sits the UCAT annually to ensure all changes are accounted for in the yearly updates to all of our courses. This means students receive the most representative UCAT questions, which resemble those used in the most recent exam in terms of their length, complexity and format. As students apply each newly-taught technique to questions belonging to the same type, they can receive personalised feedback in two ways: via the online course or during the 14-hour, face-to-face Masterclass 1.
3. ENsuring exam-day readiness by literally

The Three Remaining Road Blocks
Academic Grades, Applications & Interview
A balancing act: something that all students experience during the year they apply for medicine. Since there are only 24 hours in a day, the key to obtaining success is making sure the time you spend studying offers you maximum returns. At iCanMed, we’ve taken student support to the next level by offering three additional online courses as part of the UCAT Pro Course to help students in every aspect of medical entrance and support them at every step.
Scoring top marks in every interview format
Seven modules of 200 recently-asked questions, dissected and complemented by step-by-step guidelines and exemplars, to create authentic and high-scoring answers every time.
Writing to stand out from the rest of the competition
13 lessons to help you identify what medical selectors look for in applications and understand the seven-step method to writing the perfect application. Complete with outstanding and subpar examples.
