TRANSFORM YOUR UCAT ANALYSIS AND SOLVING SKILLS
Next-gen practice and teaching framework for efficient and complete preparation
1
STEP 1
Learning UCAT Techniques
Effective UCAT prep starts from being taught the proper techniques from the get-go.
Too many students waste resources by starting off with mock exams when they don’t even know how to solve the questions themselves. It’s like watching a stage actor perform a final rehearsal before even learning their lines… it’s absolutely absurd.
iCanMed’s UCAT course will ensure that this does not happen with our students. Our masterclasses and teaching videos will run through the techniques (packed with examples and detailed explanations) before students will have to attempt any themselves.
- Watch the video lessons on your schedule

STEP 2
Refining Your Weaknesses
Started UCAT prep but not really seeing improvements? There’s a very high chance that your prep is not tailored for 100% efficiency.
Focus your prep on identifying your weaknesses at the earliest opportunity and fix them up before you move on. iCanMed provides a step-by-step dissection of the working process for every practice question on our program. This helps you identify where, why and how you went wrong for every mistake you make and give you the opportunity to fix it up before moving on to the next question.
Remember, it’s about how much you get out of every question, not how many questions you can work through.
- Watch the video lessons on your schedule

STEP 3
Sitting Mock Exams
Feeling ready for the UCAT? Try one of our 5 full mock exams (timed and sat under UCAT conditions).
The iCanMed Mock exams are set to the exact difficulty and nature of the actual UCAT so it will give you a very good indication of what to expect as well as where you stand in the competition.
We also provide an in-depth analysis of your performance to see which sections you need to work on before heading into your test.

The Art of Teaching
The importance of learning from qualified educators
Ashton Sheares and Michael Tsai founded iCanMed after discovering a desperate need for young students aspiring to become doctors and dentists to transform the way they prepare for the UCAT.
Far too often we see ambitious students achieve top academic grades yet still fail to qualify for medicine/dentistry due to disappointing UCAT scores. Our mission is to ensure that hard-working students who want to become doctors/dentists have access to all the help and resources they need to achieve their goals.
Our teaching team consists of only fully qualified educators who not only specialise in breaking down the UCAT question-solving techniques but are also capable of delivering the content to students in the most comprehensive way. Over the years, we have helped over 10000 students in their journey toward their dream courses.
TESTIMONIALS
Our results, your success
Paid Feature Here
As opposed to just grinding through as many practice questions as possible like I did in the first time around, iCanMed’s approach is systematic and time-efficient, with a step-by-step guide to solve, and perfect, every single question type. I could feel my confidence slowly building as my techniques matured. Most importantly, iCanMed’s 24/7 support policy was just unbelievable and super helpful for someone like me, who left questions for Ashton under every second quiz I did for constant feedback.
iCanMed covers every single detail to do with UCAT, from the correct mentality as you start your preparation to what to do in the minutes right before the real exam. They are there for you from start to finish and are genuinely dedicated to their students’ success."

STILL HAVE QUESTIONS? HERE ARE ANSWERS
Frequently asked questions
This coaching is definitely relevant to students in the UK. Australian and NZ students also sit the UCAT, and the question types and format of the test are exactly the same. The only difference is that the testing periods are slightly different. By learning the techniques that helped over 681 of our Australian and NZ candidates score 3,000+ in UCAT ANZ 2020, you will have all the tools to replicate that result in your own UCAT test.
Our UCAT course for UK students is run online. It is a collection of video tutorials, practice questions, video solutions, 24-hour support system, and mock exams, as well as progress webinars.
The course includes 2,500+ UCAT questions (including five fully-timed mock exams) covering all 14 of the question types found in Section 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the 2020 UCAT exam. The questions are professionally written and reviewed by qualified assessment writers to represent the real exam in every way; their length, styles, nuances, variations, challenges, and ways of being solved are all the same. For every question, there is also a full step-by-step video solution around 5 to 15 minutes long that demonstrates how to solve each question using accurate, transferrable, and agile techniques. Imagine having 2,500 videos (with a total length of at least 12,500 minutes) of your math teacher solving every question in front of you!
In 2020, 681 iCanMed students scored 3,000+ in UCAT ANZ. When we interviewed these students, most of them revealed that they spent around 250 hours preparing for the test with some students spending as little as 150 hours. This may sound like a lot, but considering you have your entire summer holidays to prepare for it, it is definitely possible and worth the time and effort.
Unlike any other question bank, our online course is a fully structured course that guides you through a curriculum designed to help students learn the fundamentals of UCAT preparation and then skillfully scale that preparation into a result that is genuinely exam-ready. The online course contains teaching lessons and worksheets for you to diagnose and fix your unique weaknesses, as well as 2,500+ questions updated and adapted from the 2020 UCAT exam AND 2,500+ video solutions (each around 5 to 15 minutes long) that show you, just as a math teacher would on the whiteboard, how to solve every single question flawlessly. On top of that, we also have recordings of 37 progress webinars that go through parts of the course that are especially difficult and help you fix any points where you are prone to make mistakes. Our 24-hour unlimited feedback system helps you address your weaknesses as well as concerns then and there so that you can prepare according to your own priorities. Once you have mastered your UCAT techniques with the above functions, our five full mock exams as well as detailed analytics are there to help you identify your test-specific issues (such as your timing or getting used to the UCAT calculator).
Absolutely! Progress tracking is essential for any student to make sure they are preparing the right way. The UCAT course helps students with this in a variety of ways. First, a progress bar has been incorporated into each of the major modules in the online learning management system to show how many lessons you’ve completed and how many you have yet to complete. Second, to help you check if you’re improving and to manage your speed and accuracy, the course includes a large collection of tools, worksheets, and activities to be used alongside the teaching videos and practice questions. Finally, you can also review your performance for every quiz and test in our course (there are a lot of them!) to see how much time you spend on each question (for timed tests) and which questions still require more work.
An extremely important feature of the UCAT course is unlimited opportunities to contact our UCAT coaches and receive direct, personalised feedback. All questions are answered within 24 hours, every day of the year. Students can do this by leaving their question in the comments section of any of the online lessons.
Everyone has a different amount of time available depending on when they decide to sit the test. However, it is absolutely crucial that you do everything you can to maximise your chances of success, and the first step to do this is to start as early as possible. We already have students from the UK who have been preparing for the UCAT since as early as December 2020. Our advice is that you start as soon as your summer break hits (at the absolute latest).
The UCAT online course for UK students is normally priced at £250. However, for a LIMITED TIME ONLY, it is currently on sale for only £90!
UCAT Services
It’s both! We believe that combining face-to-face teaching and online practice brings out the best in students. Our UCAT Pro Course for 2022 candidates includes a total of 77.5 hours of face-to-face* teaching (22 hours in person during Masterclass 1 and 2 and 55.5 hours via webinar during the regular UCAT progress classes). Since the UCAT is a computerised test, our online course is hosted on a custom-built learning management system that provides the same test-taking experience as the official UCAT. Furthermore, the online course’s curriculum-based approach means that you are always taught how to solve questions before you actually attempt them; this helps to maximise students’ mindfulness. Learning in this way allows students to identify and fix their personal weaknesses faster, leading to more natural and more efficient preparation. (*NB: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, masterclasses may be held online in compliance with government requirements.) For more information, check out our Courses page.
We hold the UCAT Pro Course (specifically the masterclasses) in all major cities across Australia and New Zealand: Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Auckland.
(*NB: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, masterclasses may be held online in compliance with government requirements.)
UCAT Masterclass 1 is first held in early December (may be subject to change due to COVID-19), with repeat streams held between January and May. This masterclass is an intensive two-day workshop that teaches the techniques for every question type found in the most recent UCAT exam. Students also put their learning to the test by immediately solving 70 questions to boost familiarity and speed.
UCAT Masterclass 2 is held in late June/early July, by which time students must have mastered the question-solving techniques and should be ready to learn advanced test-taking strategies that will help them to make the most of their time on the big day.
UCAT progress classes commence in August 2021 and are hosted on our state-of-the-art webinar platform. They start at 7pm AEST and are held once a fortnight during school terms and once a week during school breaks. If you miss some of the progress classes, don’t worry—we record all of the lessons so that students can review them later. For more dates, check out our Courses page.
In 2019, almost 400 iCanMed students scored 3000 or more (i.e. 96th percentile or higher) on the UCAT. When we interviewed these students, most of them revealed that they spent around 250–300 hours preparing for the test. This may sound like a lot, until you realise that most medical or dental schools weight the UCAT as heavily as your ATAR. This means that the 2-hour UCAT exam is worth the same amount as all of your assessments, assignments, and hours spent studying for high-school or university subjects combined!
However, for students whose preparation only consists of doing mock exams and question banks without first learning the right techniques, it is very common to spend more than 500 hours preparing for the UCAT. Talk about inefficient prep! For more advice about how to prepare for the UCAT, check out our Resources page.
Absolutely! Progress tracking is essential for any student to make sure they are preparing the right way. The UCAT Pro Course helps students with this in a variety of ways. Firstly, a progress bar has been incorporated into each of the major modules of the online learning management system to show how many lessons you’ve completed and how many you have yet to complete. Secondly, to help you check if you’re improving and to manage your speed and accuracy issues, the course includes a large collection of tools, worksheets and activities to be used alongside the teaching videos and practice questions. Lastly, you can review your performance for every quiz and test in our course (there are a lot of them!) to see how much time you spend on each question (for timed tests) and which questions still require more work.
An extremely important feature of the UCAT Pro Course is unlimited opportunities to contact our UCAT coaches and receive direct, personalised feedback. All questions are answered within 24 hours, every day of the year. Students can do this a few ways: they can leave their question in the comments section of an online lesson; they can Discord message, email, SMS or call our coaches; and they can add our coaches on Facebook. Communication via Discord allows for live conversation and is preferred by the majority of students. You can contact us using the method that best suits you!
The best time to finish most of your UCAT prep is the end of January (for high school students) or the end of February (for university students) in the year you will be applying for medicine. Once Semester 1 starts, you will not have enough time to prepare for the UCAT alongside your school subjects, extra-curricular activities, interview preparation, leadership roles, voluntary work and/or paid work. Therefore, if you are sitting the UCAT in 2022, start preparation NOW so that you will be set to finish your UCAT prep by the end of the summer break. (If you are sitting the UCAT in 2023, you have two summer holidays to comfortably learn and master all of the UCAT question types before Year 12 begins.) Due to the importance of your ATAR, more and more students are opting to begin their preparation in Year 10 to avoid leaving it to the last minute and self-sabotaging their ATAR or UCAT result.
The course includes 2,500 UCAT questions (including five fully-timed mock exams) covering all 14 of the question types found in Section 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the 2021 UCAT exam. (After the 2022 UCAT testing period is over, these questions will be updated to reflect those in the 2022 exam). The questions are professionally written and reviewed by qualified assessment writers to represent the real exam in every way; their length, styles, nuances, variations, challenges and ways of being solved are all the same. For every question, there is also a full step-by-step video solution around 5 to 15 minutes long that demonstrates how to solve each question using accurate, transferrable and agile techniques. Imagine having 2,500 videos (with a total length of at least 12,500 minutes) of your math teacher solving every question in front of you!
Our competitively priced courses allow everyone to receive the teaching that has helped thousands of students to gain entrance into medicine and dentistry. We do this by offering far more value at a much lower cost. On average, our services cost 50% to 75% less than other premium coaching providers and private tutors.
Interview Services
Like the UCAT Pro Course, the Interview Pro Course is both face-to-face* and online. Students start with the online component to gain an understanding of the purpose of the interview and its assessment criteria and marking process. They also begin to generate personal content that meets the standards set by interviewers. After this, students attend an intensive two-day masterclass to put what they’ve learned into action. During the two days, they are coached by iCanMed’s co-founder, Michael Tsai, who has over a decade of experience as a professional interviewer, interview designer, interviewer trainer and interviewee coach. Through extensive coaching, students learn to dissect questions and develop crucial skills: opportunity identification, content selection, structure selection and engaging delivery techniques. The masterclass also covers all 7 question types used in semi-structured and MMI interview formats, including all Australian and New Zealand medical and dental interviews. After receiving feedback and mock interview opportunities, students return to the online course to access 200+ questions asked by medicine and dental interview panellists in the last 24 months. They can also access recordings of exemplar responses to inspire the development of their own responses, as well as a myriad of activities that help them to fine-tune their skills and deliver diverse, in-depth and authentic responses that score highly. During this time, students can freely contact Michael for personalised feedback.
Please note that the number of spots available for the Interview Pro Course is extremely limited.
(*NB: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, interview masterclasses may be held online in compliance with government requirements.)
In each state, the interview masterclass usually commences around 2–3 days after the end of Year 12 exams. Due to the timing of medical and dental interviews, our interview masterclasses have traditionally been held from around 10–22 November across all major cities; some interviews begin in late, mid or even early November (e.g. University of Adelaide, Western Sydney University, Charles Sturt University). However, due to COVID-19, it is expected that final exam dates will be pushed back and that medical and dental interview dates will be pushed back as well—so you can expect the interview masterclasses to begin around the end of November. We will update the website once medical and dental interview dates have been confirmed.
Pricing & Discounts
No, you cannot. However, forming a group is as simple as asking your classmates at school, talking to friends, or even posting on social media. Another way to form a group is to ask your school to notify anyone in your year level who might be interested in receiving the group discount. Once the group has been formed, you can ask your school to email hello@icanmed.com.au so that we can process your group.
Absolutely not. Forming a group allows you to get the same course for cheaper, without the need to share accounts or to work together with other students who purchased the course at the same time. We don’t encourage group work for UCAT as our course is already designed with a complete curriculum filled with tutorials, guides, activities and questions to help you succeed. So there is no compromise when purchasing the course at a group rate. You will get the same great course for less!
We do have pricing plans to make payment easier. We generally offer students the option of making a monthly split payment across three months. For example, if a 2022 candidate signs up at the group rate and a monthly payment is to be made for three months, the first payment to access the course would be $170, followed by two more payments of $170 at the start of the second and third months respectively. No interest or administrative fees are charged for setting up a payment plan.
We also provide additional discounts for students who are experiencing financial difficulties. A discount of 50% or even 100% off the course may be awarded to students in these situations. However, official records need to be provided as supplementary evidence of their financial circumstances, and each case is assessed independently. For more information, email hello@icanmed.com.au.

We do not offer a free trial of our courses. However, there are plenty of opportunities to experience how we teach for free. We recommend that students and parents visit the Resources page to view our expert advice and watch our teaching videos.
