The iCanMed Interview Masterclass - Overcoming The Final Obstacle!
The interview is the final barrier stopping you from gaining acceptance into your dream course. Every year, Michael, iCanMed’s co-founder, leads a two-day masterclass for a limited number of students in each city to prepare for the interview.
He will fully utilise his 13 years of experience as a professional interviewer, interview designer and interviewer trainer to help you maximise your full potential to answer ANY interview question across ANY interview format for EVERY medical and dental school interview.

The road in 2021 has been tough, long, windy and full of potholes. Now that you are settling back into your school or university routine, it is crucial to remember that there is still one last piece of the puzzle left: the interview.
The medical interview is easily the most important but least prepared assessment compared to the UCAT and ATAR. In 2021, universities have increased the weighting of interviews on selecting a candidate for their program. While most interviews are 30-60 mins in length, they are generally worth AT LEAST the same as your entire ATAR or, in some cases, 2x or 3x more. Imagine 6 minutes of a 30-minute interview is weighted the same as all the effort you put into all the assessments and assignments for one year 12 subject. Now imagine the 6 minutes becoming 3 minutes or as little as 1.5 minutes for some medical schools. A few schools disregard your ATAR by the final stage and only look at your interview performance as the sole determining factor for being awarded a place in their program. Crazy.
This reason is precisely why applicants with top ATARs (99.90+) and UCATs (97th+ percentile) fail to gain acceptance despite putting themselves in such significant positions before the interview. On the flip side, this is also why students with borderline ATARs and UCATs end up receiving multiple offers by smashing the interview. In short, the interview can be the reason that ‘breaks you’ or ‘makes you’. It is as simple as that.

2 x One-on-One 45 Minute Mock Interview Sessions with Interview Coach Shayan Soroush

The two one-on-one mock interview sessions (delivered via Zoom) provide the ultimate personalised opportunities for your interview skills to be assessed, graded and improved after the interview masterclass and before your big day.
Depending on the student's preference of medical/dental programs, the mock interview simulation will adopt the most format, questions style and overall experience conducted by the interview selection process of the same program in recent years.
Our coach will create detailed notes throughout the mock interview and grade you on all aspects of your interview delivery. Key parameters include the quality of your content (precisely its depth, diversity and authenticity), the organisation of the response, and its delivery, amongst many others. The coach's expertise helps you identify what needs to be improved (and how) as well as your strengths. Additional coaching will help you become a confident, engaged and adaptive interviewee to expect and capitalise on any unexpected deviations on the interview date.
Due to the intensive nature of the two one-on-one mock interview sessions, there will only be 75 Interview Elite Courses available (which includes the one-on-one sessions) for purchase.
Meet your Instructors
Michael Tsai
As a professional interviewer, Michael has interviewed more than 1000 candidates for a wide range of professional roles and fields, including selecting C-suite executives. Over the past decade, Michael has accumulated over 10,000 interviewing hours finding the ideal candidate for countless highly competitive recruitment and selection processes.
In addition, Michael has led interview training for professional assessment and awards-based marking using particular selection matrices in many fields of interest. He has trained more than 70 interviewers for far more complex interviews than medical and dental school interviews.
As an interview designer, Michael creates custom interview questions, processes, frameworks and systems used by organisations to identify authentic qualities of candidates authentically. Finally, as the head of recruitment for multinational tech corporate, he oversaw the entire process of filtering candidates from their applications to the final rounds of their interviews, a position he held for four years.
Most importantly, as an interview coach, Michael runs professional interview coaching programs for doctors looking to gain entry into a specialist training program and for working professionals looking to secure high-level positions in the world of finance, commerce, business, pharmaceuticals and engineering. In his work regarding the preparation of candidates for medical and dental school interviews, Michael has personally coached over 2,500 candidates across Australasia into receiving at least one medical school offer (average of 3) over the last decade.
Michael’s interview masterclasses help students gain top-level interview skills that help them stand out amongst other high-achieving candidates in as little time as possible. On top of creating many innovative systems to build interviewee skills, Michael also supports students in generating top-tier content, analysing questions, and intelligently organising content. Shayan Soroush
Shayan will be working as an Interview Coach with a significant majority of iCanMed interview cohort. He graduated in 2020 as the School Captain of Melbourne High School, the only boy’s Select Entry School in Victoria. In his time at MHS, he was in the Soccer First XI and played the Tuba in the Symphony Orchestra. He was successful in gaining offers from multiple Medical Schools across Australia and is currently studying a Bachelor of Medical Science & Doctor of Medicine (MD) at Monash University, where he is currently the First-year Representative at the Monash University Surgical Interest Group (MUSIG).
Shayan believes that early, comprehensive preparation for Interviews is integral to success. Having gone through this rigorous process himself, he understands the common struggles candidates face with content creation and structuring responses. This puts Shayan in a unique position to offer pragmatic advice for a variety of question types, integrating all the different traits and experiences required for an outstanding performance.
Shayan has also undergone countless hours of professional Interview training throughout 2021 to ensure that he can coach candidates through different barriers they may come across in their Interview preparation.
