UCAT Progress Classes Commence
(Held from Aug to Oct, then Dec to July the Next Year)
Each webinar class focuses on identifying and fixing the unique 'procrastination points' and 'mistakes' for each question type found in Sections 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the UCAT exam. Unless each of these issues is permanently resolved, students will never achieve 100% accuracy and 100% speed.
With 37 classes organised across the year, students will attend classes once per fortnight during school terms and once per week during term breaks. Students receive maximum benefit by attending classes after working through the relevant portion of the online course.
Masterclass 1 Commences
This two-day, intensive masterclass is first held in early December (unless school schedules change significantly due to COVID-19), with repeat streams held in January, February, March and April the following year. No later streams are held, as there is insufficient time to complete preparation properly later in the year.
You do not need any prerequisite knowledge to attend the masterclass, as it aims to teach you the best ways to solve and learn all UCAT question types from scratch. However, if you have already commenced preparation, the masterclass reviews and refines the question types you have already studied to achieve mastery quickly and jump-starts your learning for the question types you have not yet attempted.
Attending the masterclass in December offers the greatest benefits, as this helps you to identify all of the weaknesses you need to address before the summer break, allowing you to complete most or all of your UCAT study before school restarts.
Masterclass 2 Commences
Compared to its predecessor (the UMAT), the UCAT is a much faster test; on average, candidates are given 61.7% less time to solve questions that are significantly more complex.
Masterclass 2, the final intensive workshop, focuses on resolving any remaining question-solving issues and introducing the most efficient time-management strategies for the test. High-yielding question types (i.e. questions that are easier to solve and are worth more marks) are revealed as priorities for each of the five sections. Students are also encouraged to perfect their test-taking strategies by applying them to mock exams.
Additional tips for stress management and final checklists are also provided to wrap up your study before you sit the UCAT in mid to late July.

From the beginning of year 10 I heard how important it was to study for the UMAT. I went with another preparation company at that time and I came away from the experience not improving that much. By the end of year 11 the UCAT was announced as the new med entrance exam. At the time, there were no Australian companies who knew any more about the UCAT than I did, which was just ridiculous that they were already charging money for something that was brand new. After extensive research, iCanMed was the final UCAT prep company that I ended at and I stand by my decision that if I were in the same position again, I would still go with iCanMed.
I avidly took advantage of the opportunity to ask questions to Ashton and Michael 24/7 and their advice actually had logical reasoning behind it that made sense. The techniques provided left no room for error and meant that every correct answer was never off a whim but with sound reasoning. With iCanMed, I could see the reason why each answer was it was and bring that knowledge with me to answer similar questions. I attribute a lot of my success in my medicine application journey to the team at iCanMed and am very pleased and grateful that I chose them amongst the rest who are not only more expensive but less supportive.

I’m not surprised that the iCanMed cohort did so well in the 2020 intake round. When you craft a program which is expertly structured and combine it with one-on-one support unmatched by any competitor, success is certain. The development of a curriculum which analyses each of the 14 UCAT question types was what convinced me to use iCanMed, as students are taught exactly how to approach each question, which is astronomically better than just doing practice problems. We were also free to reach out to the team if we ever got stuck in our preparation, receiving a comprehensive response from Ashton in less than 24 hours (how he answered everyone is still a mystery).
For me, the most valuable aspect of iCanMed’s suite of programs was the interview course. I developed an understanding of what is needed to be a doctor, as iCanMed taught me what universities want from their medical students, and why the traits they search for are so important. I also took part in the interview masterclasses, where I put my understanding into practice and learnt how to articulate my motivations and beliefs whilst conveying to medical schools that I was the student they needed. Michael was largely responsible for any interview questions we had and seemed to be an endless source of knowledge regarding interviews and medicine acceptance. He actually told me about the medical program I am doing this year, so I’m not exaggerating when I say I wouldn’t have gotten into medicine without him. Michael also became my mentor over my Year 12 experience, and helped me fully understand why I wanted to be a physician. So not only does iCanMed teach you how to get into medicine and dentistry, they can show you why you should, which is an invaluable lesson for us 2020 medical students and any Year 12 eyeing up a career as a doctor or dentist.

If you’re looking at preparation courses not just to ace UCAT, but to actually get into Medicine, I would highly recommend signing up with iCanMed. Going into Year 12, I genuinely didn’t think that in a year’s time the thing that I would be ‘stressed’ about would be which medical school offer to accept. But because of iCanMed’s UCAT and interview training programs, I am in this amazing position today.
One of the main reasons iCanMed’s program stands out to me more than any other is because they accompany their comprehensive UCAT training with genuine 24/7 support.
And that might not seem like a big deal now, but trust me when you’re in the thick of things and your UCAT is in a month and you’ve got all these exams coming up and X,Y,Z to do, the first person I would text is Michael. The advice and knowledge he has about how to get into medicine is unparalleled—the reason I received my offers was because I knew exactly HOW to get in, so I was able to work smarter not harder. He has always been just a Facebook Messenger message away and for that I am so incredibly grateful—I really don’t think I would have been able to do it without him. I haven’t gone too much into detail about how good the UCAT program is because I think that’s quite evident in the ridiculous number of iCanMed students that end up receiving offers for medicine and dentistry. The program really emphasises learning how to do a few questions well, as opposed to thousands of questions quickly but with low accuracy. Through learning and breaking down the rationale of every stage in answering a question, I was able to score in the 91 percentile, received 3 interview offers and 2 offers to study medicine. But, what I really appreciated is that every time I had a question or wanted to do a practice interview question with me he always—and I really mean always—finds time for his students. If you make the time to ask for his personal help, he will give it to you no questions asked and is very gracious with his time. He’ll make your JCU written application stand out or he’ll call you for 30 minutes if you want to calm down before an interview. When I got my medical school offers, he was one of the first people I texted. I’m super happy I chose iCanMed for my journey into med, and I know you will be too.

Just like many of us who want to do med, facing the UCAT and the super long road to med in Year 12 was really daunting to me and I felt pretty scared and was certain med was out of my reach. I joined iCanMed after attending a free lecture they gave at school and I can certainly recommend their online modules and in-person workshops. A lot of people have no idea how to approach an aptitude test like UCAT, and iCanMed gave really helpful guidance that ultimately got me through and helped me achieve a competitive UCAT score.
From attending the dissection workshops and binge-watching their online videos and practising UCAT, I became really familiar with the question types and the skills I needed to hone in on to ace the exam. After finishing year 12, my next concern was the interview process, as once again, I thought I was going in blind. My friends and I signed up for the 2-day interview masterclass led by Michael, and I’m so thankful I did. He led a small class of us through all the different question types in an interview that I’d had no idea even existed, and how to apply a step-by-step burger model to tackle each one and earn a high-scoring response. We put what we learnt into practice while Michael came around and gave personalised feedback and points for improvement to each person. Michael is always willing to help out and generous with his guidance, and even after the masterclass ended, I texted him with a lot of questions and he responded really quickly sending detailed example responses and even calling to give advice. I was invited to attend some interstate interviews, and I panicked because I wasn’t sure how they were going to be structured and I didn’t know anyone who had done them, so after messaging, Michael gave me a reassuring phone call and helped me to analyse the type of interview and the tricks and nuances used that I should look out for. After a hella intense 2019, I’m incredibly grateful to the team at iCanMed for guiding me through to the career that I’ve always wanted, and I believe that I would not have gained a place at Monash Med without them.

As a highly neurotic high school med prospective student, searching for the right resources to prepare for the behemoth that was the newly introduced UCAT was a struggle. As much as I hate to admit my foolish diligence, all of my work for the UMAT was lost, leaving me in a limbo of delusional doomsaying (yeah, I started UMAT prep really early). My instincts jumped to exploring UKCAT resources, a route I followed for a while until I realised I was simply reinforcing poor time-inefficient ways to approach questions. It was only then that I realised the true value of iCanMed’s approach to test preparation.
Their no-nonsense approach to answering any test question stripped down my previous misconceptions of test prep, so much so that I was able to adapt similar principles into school to get a final ATAR of 99.95 and I don’t even consider myself to be that intelligent. iCanMed’s logical approach to ‘what it takes to answer a question’ is proper mindful and effective study, the kind of study that buys you time to do other things you need to do, like prepare for ATAR and interviews. Their deep understanding of education exposed the emotional decision-making I was a culprit of; things like doing practice exams to feel competent, rather than actually being competent. The most important thing to me was the fact that iCanMed wasn’t just a faceless organisation where you have no idea how to ask questions or who you can talk to. I admit that I was more reserved when it came to asking questions but the fact that Michael and Ashton are very accessible on social media sealed the deal. Their dedication makes this service dance on the lines of personalised mentorship, a testimony to the fact that they actually want to help students, not get money out of them. In addition, the interview preparation course vastly exceeded my expectations. It gives you the template for a well-crafted journey of self-introspection, a model that allowed me to be confident rather than faking it. The UCAT Pro Course that I bought had stupid value for money, guiding me through the intricacies of interview preparation, an online study course which I intend on using in university and an additional English course which literally boosted my mark until I won multiple awards that I wouldn’t have won otherwise.

I first enrolled in iCanMed’s UMAT course in June 2018 and, filled with a boost of motivation, immediately got started on their endless catalogue of comprehensive video tutorials and practice questions. Less than three months later, I’d finally made a dent in the coursework when the UMAT Consortium announced that the 2019 UMAT was entirely replaced by the UCAT—something that initially shocked and incited panic in many prospective medical applicants like me who would be the first in Australia to sit this exam.
On the very day the news was announced, September 24th 2018, Michael sent an email and a Facebook post announcing the news as well as informing us all that the iCanMed team had been working on a UCAT course for several years and were completely prepared with another, equally thorough course designed specifically for the UCAT. He ended the email with “don’t worry because we got you covered.” The way Michael and the iCanMed team handled the next few weeks with complete transparency and immediate around-the-clock replies to any messages and queries in order to absolutely ensure everyone had the most accurate and relevant information was remarkable.
This level of support continued for the following two years and is what I appreciated the most about iCanMed. I never felt lost or confused because of the high level of transparency Michael and Ashton provided to everyone. Knowing that, whether it was a public holiday or 2am in the morning, I could message Michael with a question and receive an almost immediate reply showed me I was valued as a student. From the very first masterclass, where Ashton analysed and broke down every single question type into its core components, to the UCAT practice drills, from lodging the very first application to the very final interview invitation, Michael and Ashton constantly had all the information and were proactive in sharing any new detail or squashing any widespread rumour from the internet.
iCanMed’s approach to all the medical application requirements is methodical and objective in nature, making it significantly easier to implement. Every single UCAT and interview question type are broken down into step-by-step processes for us to approach in a specific manner repeatedly until our cognitive thinking style aligns perfectly with that required to, essentially, get into medicine.
By the end of the two year UCAT/Interview course, I had scored in the 97th percentile on the UCAT, received seven interview invites, and am now studying medicine at my dream university. Looking back, I can say with great confidence that this would not have been possible without Michael, Ashton, and the entire team at iCanMed.

I first came across iCanMed back in 2017, and I remember back then being completely lost on how to prepare for the medical school interview. But having known the founder, Michael Tsai for the past two years, without a shadow of a doubt he and iCanMed have been instrumental in helping me gain offers to Monash, UNSW, JCU and UWS. I’ve experienced interview courses from other companies, and iCanMed surpasses them by leaps and bounds. I consider myself someone who loves structure, and the fact that the interview course is centred around an intuitive curriculum makes it really easy to not only learn the material and have a sense of direction while doing so, but also find the gaps in my understanding and address them.
In addition, the depth of the course’s content provided me with an extremely thorough understanding of the interview and the material, while being really easy to understand as well. I love the “content creation” section because other courses that I’ve attended focused on either memorising answers to interview questions, or vague “theories” that do not tie in with what the interviewers are looking for. When I attended the interview at Monash, the experience was exactly like what Michael mentioned; the questions asked were completely new scenarios. However, I was able to approach each question with confidence, because I had learnt the tools and content required to answer them. I liken this to a traditional school exam, where if you were to memorise the answers to a math problem for instance, all the person setting the paper has to do is change the format slightly and you would be lost. The key is to have a repertoire of knowledge that can be adapted to different situations, so that any question that comes out in the exam or interview can be answered.
iCanMed is the only company that I have experienced that embraces “content creation”, and this combined with Michael’s immense experience and ability to personally answer quite literally every single question I asked him with detail and clarity are the primary reasons why I wholeheartedly recommend them. Besides that, Michael and iCanMed’s dedication to their students’ success is second to none. The first time I applied to medical school in 2018, I was accepted to UNSW, JCU and UWS. However, I was rejected from Monash due to my ISAT (International Student’s Admission Test) score. Studying at Monash had always been my first choice, so I decided to reapply the next year. During my gap year, I really got to know Michael and through talking to him on the phone and our conversations over text, I started to see him, not as a tutor or the founder of iCanMed, but as a friend. This is something truly unique because there was never a time when I felt that I was a “customer” to iCanMed, but that I had their full support during my medical school application.
Yes, your parents will be your primary pillar of support, as it was for myself, but having this friendship, this bond with someone else can really provide a different perspective and a type of support that will help you rise to any challenges that you may face. The interview assesses your personal traits, so it is crucial to go into it with an optimistic, genuine and authentic mindset. I feel that this was really cultivated by the feeling that I was part of the “iCanMed community”, which helped me embrace the process and build up an intrinsic self-confidence within myself, a drive to really give the interview my all. I wholeheartedly recommend iCanMed without hesitation. Michael is absolutely game-changing when it comes to preparing students for the medical school interview, and I am confident that you will have an incredible experience as well!

I recall that when I first started studying for the UCAT I felt so lost and unsure of how to go about my preparation. Like many of my classmates, I used the traditional approach—sitting multiple practice exams under timed conditions. After about a month of using this approach (with little progress) I started questioning it. After all, the UCAT was different from the UMAT. Didn’t that mean that preparation needed to be different as well?
Feeling increasingly hopeless about fulfilling my dream of getting into medicine, I researched different UCAT preparation companies. Some were sketchy, some expensive, and others used the traditional approach. Except for iCanMed. For the first time, a UCAT preparation company was telling me to solve less questions and develop accuracy instead! Feeling curious (and slightly attacked), I messaged Michael and explained to him my circumstances, to which he patiently explained to me how this learning process worked.
Unlike many preparation companies, Michael and Ashton are a message away, offering 24/7 services. In the previous year, I was able to go to them for practically anything—interview questions, note taking worksheets, study techniques, UCAT. The list goes on. My questions were endless, but despite this, they patiently answered each one, and continued to encourage me. iCanMed uses the approach of studying smart. In my preparation for the UCAT and interviews, iCanMed has taught me to directly identify and target my weaknesses, instead of wasting my (scarce) time on trial and error, and mindless practice. As a student juggling other school subjects and commitments, this was beneficial in saving time, whilst still building the depth required to do well in the UCAT and interviews.
The road to medicine is a very long one, with multiple steps on the way. iCanMed has supported me in each step of this journey, not only preparing me for UCAT, but for interviews, medical application writing and study as well. I must emphasise how large a role Michael’s interview training course played in my acceptance in medicine. Along with teaching me to answer each question type, it gave me peace of mind in understanding what interviewers were looking for and the common marking system.
I am forever thankful to Michael and Ashton and rest of the team for helping me make my dream come true and would highly recommend it to anyone who’s considering pursuing a career in medicine or dentistry.

Prior to joining the iCanMed course I had no idea where to start for UCAT preparation. Since it was the first year that the UCAT testing style was being introduced, there were so many prep courses and resources provided that it was difficult to figure out which ones were reliable. I found iCanMed through a teacher and first attended the free prep courses provided. After attending two, it became clear how thorough, well-planned and well-thought-out each lesson for each section of the test was.
In addition to the clear course structure, the help and support provided by Michael and Ashton really helped me to become motivated and persistent in studying for the test. Whenever I was confused on a topic, they never hesitated to call or send a video to help me find a solution. In this way, the true guidance and care of the iCanMed team helped me to pass the UCAT and receive a place in medicine.

I was an iCanMed student during 2019 and it was one of the best experiences during my schooling career. Their guidance and knowledge with regards to the UCAT and interview were extremely helpful and enabled me to perform at the peak of my capability. Not only did iCanMed give me the insight into doing well in these two important aspects of the selection process, they also gave me confidence in my own ability as I went in knowing that I had tackled the hardest questions and was really well prepared. I was fortunate to have Michael really guide me through the interview process so that when it came to the actual interview, I just let the skills that I had acquired work for themselves.

For high school students like myself, I imagine the seemingly infinite stakes of the UCAT are quite daunting and enough to deter many students from pursuing medicine and dentistry. Thankfully, iCanMed delivers both a course and a support program to ensure students are able to learn how to prepare for the test, and are never disheartened from doing so. iCanMed’s unique teaching philosophy embodies the aphorism ‘quality over quantity’ and provides a systematic approach to tackling UCAT questions, ensuring a student’s weaknesses can be identified and consolidated prior to the actual exam.
Ashton, Michael and the rest of the team are excellent at what they do, as evidenced by the extent to which their solutions are detailed, and their ability to personalise support and instil confidence in students, meaning anyone has the potential to achieve. Take myself as an example; during a diagnostic exam with another tuition company in the middle of Year 11, I was expected to achieve the 50th percentile. One year later, I had sat the UCAT and secured interviews at the university I had applied to! In similar fashion, the interview can be intimidating due to its huge weighting relative to its duration. However, iCanMed are once again capable of providing a quality teaching service to ensure students put their best foot forward and are successful in demonstrating their qualities to medical and dental schools. The thorough, structured nature of the course ensures any student is able to understand and apply the techniques involved in formulating a compelling response to whatever question is thrown at them. Moreover, the ability to attend classes and practice mock interviews ensures no student is neglected, hence everyone has unique plans to best suit their communication styles and ensure they effectively portray their capability to work in healthcare.

After I undertook some work experience in the healthcare field in Year 11, I was really keen to see if I had what it took to pursue medicine as a career in the future. A bunch of students from my school were attending one of iCanMed’s free masterclasses, so I decided to check it out. Not only was Michael’s session incredibly informative in giving me the specific requirements to be eligible for medicine across Australian universities, but it was also where I first attempted some practice UMAT (not UCAT, it was early 2018) questions. I found Michael’s teaching/explaining style extremely informative, and I was keen to try out an iCanMed course for myself.
The online Q-and-A feature, a part of this course, allowed me to clarify any doubts I had about specific questions within 24 hours, which proved extremely valuable to me. When Year 12 came around and I received my UCAT scores, I was doubtful about whether they were competent enough for an offer from any med uni, let alone Adelaide. But Michael reassured me and suggested I begin interview prep ASAP. Sure enough, I received interview offers from 5 universities for medicine, and Michael was kind enough to run me through the different interview structures and prepare me for what I could expect. At one point in January, I thought I missed out on getting any offers to study medicine, but then when I did, it was probably one of the best highlights of my life. A huge thank you to Michael, Ashton and the entire iCanMed team; I can’t recommend them enough!
